Independent: Prof. Herman Wasserman on the “inauthentic” anti-immigrant movement

CINIA Director Prof. Herman Wasserman spoke to the Independent, about the rise of what he describes as an “inauthentic” anti-immigrant movement in South Africa, following a wave of recent deadly protests.

Prof. Wasserman told the Independent, “It presents itself as a grassroots movement, but it’s an inauthentic ploy online using bots, using influencer armies, all these sort of strategies of hate and disinformation that have now been deployed to really divide.”
