
Ghana: US imposes visa restrictions as election tension heightens
The United States announced in October 2024 new visa restrictions aimed at Ghanaians found culpable of undermining democracy in the lead-up to the Ghana elections. This policy, spearheaded by United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken, marks the first time such a restriction has been applied to the country.
The US claims that the move will prevent violence and uphold democratic values.
