PesaCheck, part of Code for Africa and a partner of the CINIA Check Desk, fact-checked a video purportedly showing South African President Cyril Ramaphosa urging countries to lift travel bans on South Africa over xenophobia. The claim is false. The video has been taken out of context and and does not depict the event as claimed.

The original video was taken in November 2021 and shows Ramaphosa urging countries to lift travel bans following the emergence of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.
